Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah Jr. was born on December 19, 1970, in Lagos, Nigeria, to an Israeli-Jewish father and a Yoruba mother from Ondo State. He attended Atara Primary School and Community Grammar School in Surulere, Lagos, where he grew up. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a diploma in Mass Communications and pursued a career in acting.

His mother raised Ramsey Nouah as his father left them when he was very young. He attributes his success to his mother, who did her best to instil good values and character in him.

Career

Ramsey Nouah began acting in the early 1990s to help fund his General Certificate Education (GCE).

He began his career as an ambitious musician at the age of 20 before following a friend’s advice and trying his hand at acting. At the age of 21, he auditioned and was cast as Jeff in the upcoming Nigerian television soap opera Fortunes.

By 23, he had already appeared in Fortunes from 1993 to 1994. He soared to prominence and became one of the most recognized faces in the Nigerian entertainment industry after captivating audiences with his performance as Jeff (a name he was known by in Nigeria).

After appearing in a couple of Nigerian home video (now known as Nollywood) productions that never got published due to a lack of completion money and other obstacles, he made his main screen debut in the well-received Silent Night in 1996. Nouah was rapidly dubbed “Lover Boy” after appearing in various Nigerian home video projects, mostly in romantic parts, from the 1990s to the early 2000s.

His face appeared on several movie posters, and his performance grew in strength and acclaim as he sold millions of Nigerian home video (direct to DVD) projects to African entertainment fans. He is a well-known African figure who will not be forgotten for his significant contribution to the African entertainment business. In The Figurine, he played a socially awkward new graduate in 2009. He is widely considered one of Africa’s all-time greatest actors.

In 2015, he bought Kenneth Nnebue’s rights to Living in Bondage: Breaking Free for a possible remake in Europe, America, and Nigeria. Although the news was later confirmed on Instagram, the project appeared to have been stuck in development hell for three years. He indicated in 2018 that his remake would be followed by Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, which was released on November 8, 2019.

Ramsey Nouah, who plays the new cult chief priest, directs the film and stars original cast members Okwonkwo, Udokwu, and Kanayo. Nnamdi, Andy’s son, is the central character in the novel.
